OPEN SPACE ADVISORY COUNCIL

Holmdel’s Open Space Advisory Council was established in 1999 to review and recommend parcels of land to be acquired and preserved and to promote the preservation of open space through public education.

The Open Space Advisory Council consists of nine (9) regular members plus two alternate members. The Mayor or his/her designee from the Township Committee shall be a member plus eight (8) members appointed by the Township Committee, which include representatives from the Township Committee, Planning Board, Environmental Commission, and Recreation Advisory Committee. All members shall serve without compensation.

The Council has the following advisory responsibilities:

        a. Prepare a report to the Township Committee, setting forth the Council's recommendation of which parcels of property within the Township should be acquired in fee and/or those parcels of property within the Township should warrant preservation in whole or in part.

        b. Produce a prioritized list of properties to recommend for acquisition and/or properties from which development rights should be acquired. The initial list was filed in 2000 with the Township Committee.

        c. On or before September 30 of each year, update the list.

        d. Foster and promote the preservation of open space within the Township.

        e. Help create and disseminate information promoting open space preservation.

The Meetings of the Open Space Advisory Council are held on the following dates beginning at 8:00 PM in the Large Conference Room at Town Hall.
