Police Blotter

Date of Incident: 5/2/16

On Monday, May 2nd at approximately 9:33 PM, Patrolman Brian O’Keefe was on patrol in the area of Ackerson Park and Indian Hill School when he observed a black Chevy parked in the parking lot for Ackerson Park unoccupied.  O’Keefe saw that the vehicle had its dome light on so he checked on the vehicle as the parks are closed after dusk.

After checking on the vehicle, and while returning to his patrol vehicle, O’Keefe observed 3 male subjects:  Josiah Zarate ( 19 years old), Eduardo Vazquez (19 years old), Christopher Medina (18 years old) – all of Hazlet, walking on the other side of the park closer to Indian Hill School.  O’Keefe yelled to the subjects to see if the vehicle was theirs.  The three fled on foot back towards the woods behind the school.

O’Keefe lost sight of the subjects near the wood line and radioed to other police units to respond to the area to assist with locating the subjects.  After 30 minutes of searching the area, the subjects were located by Ptl. Menosky near the soccer fields at Indian Hill School.

While speaking with all three subjects to determine why they fled on foot, it was found that they were in possession of Marijuana, while on school property.  They were arrested on scene, processed at Holmdel Police Headquarters, and released pending a court appearance.
